We at the HIWC are passionate about making a difference, in our own lives and in the lives of others. That’s why giving back to our local and global communities is a major part of what we do in our Club. We are a charitable nonprofit association and we work hard to give our members opportunities to volunteer and donate their time and money towards charitable causes.
We work with the local charity Cooking for Hope, founded by Juliah Rais-Morres, and support her work with refugees and unaccompanied minor refugees through volunteering and item donations. Our members volunteer monthly during her cooking sessions with refugees and support her catering services during local Heidelberg events.

Hope Beyond Displacement Support
Through various fundraisers throughout the year, we support FAWCO’s Target Project, Hope Beyond Displacement. This project is an initiative of the Collateral Repair Project located in Amman, Jordan. Through the generous donations of Member Clubs and individual members, the Target Project will help build better futures through education, vocational and leadership training for refugee women and girls.
We had a book discussion and fundraising walk, and will have a benefit concert by Robin Meloy Goldsby all benefiting Hope Beyond Displacement.
World Refugee Day Event Series
To coincide with World Refugee Day on June 20, 2018, we held a series of events to raise awareness about the challenging lives and conditions of being a refugee. Two events were for HIWC members only: a special book discussion with the author and joining an end of Ramadan party with refugee women, and one was open to the public, A Walk Through the Night.
Through these events we stimulated discussion and raised awarenss on this critical topic and raised €260 for Hope Beyond Displacement! Read more about the whole series with a description of each event on our blog.

NCT Walk Against Cancer
The National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) in Heidelberg holds an annual event to raise money to support research in the fight against cancer. In 2018, the Heidelberg IWC participated with a team. Participating by walking, running and pushing strollers, the members had fun while supporting a local cause.
